Just read an interesting blog about using up the food we store in cupbaords and freezers on the MyZeroWaste website. Now Mrs Green is challenging ethical consumers to eat into their foods stocks in June and save money and save the planet.
Here at BuyVertue towers we can see where she is coming from. A large proportion of all household waste is food waste – and its not just the vegatables off the side of children’s plate. With “buy one get one free” and “50% extra” offers we often come away from the supermarket with more food than we intend – and that doesn’t always get eaten. The total UK food waste put into our bins stands at 7.2million tonnes a year. That is over 100kg each! Now that is a lot of food.
So this June follow Mrs Green’s example and see how far you can eat into your food stocks before it goes off. Whether its last year’s fruit from the freezer or the last can soup from the back of the cupboard make June the “Use it up” month. You can follow Mrs Green’s antics on Facebook too.
